Shades of Light Challenge – Shadows

Shades of Light – Challenge 2019-20

Similar to the Seasons Challenge in the previous year (2018-19) we’ll have four new challenges. Unlike the previous challenges, you won’t know what the next challenge is until the end of the current challenge. The reason is so you won’t be distracted, you might need to do a little research to manage your own creative thoughts around the theme. I trust this enables you to think deeper about the process and the concepts. Included are links to help define the challenge and provide pointers to help you.

Fundamentally these challenges won’t be hard but will challenge your thinking and may require you to do a little research on the internet.

The second challenge for 2019-20 is entitled “Shadows”. 01/12/2019 to 28/02/20220

Shadows Definition: A shadow is a dark (real image) area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it.  Shadows are not simply a dark mass that borders the light. Rather, shadows are an entity as alive as the light. It is the shadows that shape the light, draw attention to the light, and integrate with the light to produce striking photographic opportunities.  Importantly do not confuse shadows with silhouettes.  Silhouettes is an entire seperate subject, one we may or may not explore.
